About

Hi, I’m Ashe, and this is my blog.

I wear many hats.  So does the blog.  Depending on the day, you’ll find here a food blog, a choral blog, Southeast Michigan blog, engineering blog, or even a marathon blog!  Perhaps in time one will take over the rest, but that day has not come.

My only editorial promise is that I’ll try and make it interesting.

History:

I’ve been writing this weblog under different names since I started college in 2002 — remember, way back when the word “blogosphere” was coined.  It has gone by the names Punctuated Equilibrium, The Panthalassa Experiment, and Lithoglyphic.  And then one day I decided to call it just what it is: AsheBlogs.  That is: blogs belonging to Ashe, and/or a place where Ashe blogs.

The Banner Photo:

The strange tunnel in the picture is found at the Detroit Airport, and it’s one of the few pieces of airport architecture that makes me stop and contemplate it every single time I pass.  I drift along, borne by the moving sidewalks, and think about my place in life.

Lights flash in many colors, and sounds and music play.  Sometimes the impression is of a thunderstorm… sometimes of bells and chimes… sometimes it is the colors and lights on the inside of your eyelids at the end of a long day, ushering you into dream.  Like the river of proverb, you can’t step into the same tunnel twice.  It is never the same.

Personally, as the only route to the B and C concourses in McNamara Terminal, it marked the beginning and end of the majority of my trips to Michigan over a few years, visiting my long-distance boyfriend.  And now I live here, and hardly get to see it anymore!  It’s behind security, so it’s impossible to visit intentionally.

The tunnel marks a transition.  I’ve made many.  Few transitions in life are so well-marked, and thereby honored.
