After many convolutions that I’d rather not recount, I got a new computer. It’s a cute little Averatec 1020, relatively inexpensive. Averatec’s a newish company trying to break into the market, specializing in supermobile thin-and-lights. Here’s a quick review:
(1) Bright, readable screen. It’s matte rather than glossy, so no glare. It also appears to be somewhat durable, which is also a good thing. It’s probably one of the best laptop screens I’ve seen.
(2) Usable keyboard. Despite being a 10″ computer, I haven’t had to relearn typing. I do miss my home/end keys, though.
(3) So tiny! Enough said.
(4) People keep mistaking it for an Apple. It’s pristine white plastic, with a pearly deep red cover. Cute!
(5) It works. Unlike the last two computers I’ve come across. No, I’m not bitter, not bitter at all.
Almost five years later, I realize that I had managed to purchase one of the first netbooks… and I still use it!
